COURSE DESCRIPTION
This short course will allow you to understand the basics and fundamentals of dimensional analysis by considering the relevance of dimensionless groups within chemical engineering. You will also be shown how to perform dimensional analysis using the Buckingham π method (Step-by-Step). While considering what variables actually are, and breaking them down further into their “fundamental” units is key to performing dimensional analysis.
This is an excellent introduction to the world of dimensionless numbers and how they can be derived to aid your understanding of more complex problems later in your studies.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
- Understand the background of what dimensional analysis is.
- Recognise the wide range of variables used in engineering calculations.
- Know how to identify the fundamental units of each variable.
- Be able to recognise the most common dimensionless numbers and know their application.
- Know how to apply the Buckingham π method to solve dimensional analysis problems
FINISHING THE COURSE
The course will be split into a mixture of video lessons and video exercises, along with a set of downloadable PDFs with additional questions and solutions. To complete the course a minimum of 80% must be covered, and a certificate will be awarded on completion.
