This short course will allow you to understand the basics and fundamentals of dimensional analysis by considering the relevance of dimensionless groups within chemical engineering. You will also be shown how to perform dimensional analysis using the Buckingham π method (Step-by-Step). While considering what variables actually are, and breaking them down further into their “fundamental” units is key to performing dimensional analysis.
This is an excellent introduction to the world of dimensionless numbers and how they can be derived to aid your understanding of more complex problems later in your studies.
- Understand the background of what dimensional analysis is.
- Recognise the wide range of variables used in engineering calculations.
- Know how to identify the fundamental units of each variable.
- Be able to recognise the most common dimensionless numbers and know their application.
- Know how to apply the Buckingham π method to solve dimensional analysis problems

MissThe course is easy to follow with clear and relevant information. Overall pleased with this course and will recommend The ChemEng Student for other courses. Look forward the other courses.
MrBeta tester here, the overall course was good, the tutor has a clear and has an easy to follow voice. Will recommend this site to others and have given 5-star review!
MrGreat introduction, I was asked to be a beta tester, and my honest opinion is that the course videos and tutorials are clear, I like the format and the additional learning material. I will certainly be purchasing the other courses. Would definitely recommend this website.
MsThis was an interesting short course, would like to see more material but was told that this was a trial so I am looking forward to the larger ones. Overall I liked it and pleased I found it.
MrI thought the course was good, a bit short but as an introduction I liked it. I like the exercise videos, really clears up the theory as it was hard to wrap my head around.
